Description
This course examines American history through the lens of "wilderness." Each group who came to America assessed the wilderness differently, and this, in turn, impacted their land use as well as their relationships with each other. From the Lewis and Clark Expedition to westward expansion and the birth of the national park system, wilderness defines essential components of the American experience. Students in this course will research modern conflicts over wilderness designation to understand its continuing importance to national identity. Meets General Education Distribution Area III.A and VI.
