Description
This course will visit several regionally important ecosystems including high elevation bogs, old growth and successional forests, rivers and riparian habitats, and others. At each location we will explore the theories, principles, and skills of wilderness leadership and experiential education. We will also learn and implement environmental management, testing, and assessment skills. We will explore ecosystem level ecological theories and discuss environmental impacts unique to each habitat type.
This course will be field based and experiences may include strenuous physical activities, hiking, minimum impact backcountry travel and living skills, environmental ethics and interpretation, navigation, and canoeing.
Prerequisite: None. Meets General Education Distribution Area VI.
