Description

This course uses A Doll's House, a play by Henrik Ibsen, and primary historical resources to introduce students to the principles of script analysis and historical analysis. Students will continue to apply these skills to several adaptations of the script and various historical resources that shift with each script adaptation. Combining approaches from theatre studies and history, students will investigate cultural texts and their context: how and why they are produced, what they are intended to communicate, how audiences can extrapolate various meanings from them, and how texts can take on new meanings in different historical and cultural contexts. Meets General Education categories I.C, III.A, or IV.B (pre-2025); Interdisciplinary Thinking, Historical Thinking, and Literary Thinking (2025+).
