Description
This course explores the landscape of conspiracy theories and myths, from Bigfoot to the COVID-19 pandemic, through the lens of media literacy and academic research, aiming to enhance students' critical thinking and ability to discern reliable information. By examining the role of media in the spread of misinformation, students will engage with historical and contemporary examples of conspiracy theories. Participants will conduct individual research projects on chosen topics, guided by principles of media studies and historicity and supported with feedback. The goal is to equip students with the analytical tools necessary to critically evaluate and navigate the complex world of misinformation and conspiracy theories. Meets General Education Distribution Areas I.C and III.A.
