Description

This course explores the depiction of future technologies in historical media and examines how these portrayals shaped societal perceptions of progress and innovation. Using films, television, literature, and other media as case studies, students will critically analyze how past visions of the future reflected the cultural, political, and technological concerns of their time. From utopian dreams to dystopian warnings, we will assess the impact of these narratives on contemporary technological advancements and public attitudes toward the future. Meets General Education Distribution Area III.A (pre-2025), Historical Thinking (2025+).
