Description
Explores the science of mindfulness. Students study and personally experience how mindfulness may affect one’s mental and physical health, awareness and concentration, empathy and compassion, and relationship to and appreciation of nature. Meditation techniques include vipassana, loving-kindness, and nature-based practices. Students will establish a regular meditation practice, document their progress, and analyze and reflect on their experiences. The course culminates in a required intensive weekend meditation retreat in a natural setting in western NC. Meets General Education Distribution Area III.C.
