Description

Students learn the chemistry, structure, and diagnostic properties of the major rock-forming and economic minerals as well as hand-specimen identification of rocks. Analytical techniques used in mineral identification and the application of specific minerals toward the resolution of geological problems are covered in detail. Field trips to important mineral localities will supplement the lecture and laboratory. Three hours lecture and two hours of lab. Prerequisite: GEOL 101.
