Description

Through an examination of historical memory, this course examines the ways people have preserved the past - both accurately and inaccurately - and the purposes behind that preservation. Students will consider controversies over interpretation of the past and examine the ways communities, groups,
and movements have employed historical memory, particularly at public monuments and memorials, heritage sites, and tourist attractions. The course covers a wide spectrum of global history including the Holocaust, South African Apartheid and the American South.
Meets General Education Distribution Area III.A.
