Description

Beginning with a broad introduction to prehistoric Native culture, this course emphasizes the historical era experiences of southern native Americans. Topics include the Spanish conquistadors, the Columbian exchange, missionary movements, the early Indian wars, the Trail of Tears, civilization
programs, boarding schools, the Indian New Deal, the American Indian Movement, and the Indian Renaissance. Primarily a reading and discussion seminar. Prerequisite: HIS 103, HIS 104.
