Description
This course teaches the basics of canoeing on lakes and rivers. The curriculum covers canoe design, stroke vocabulary, paddling skills and maneuvers, river hydrology and features, water reading and river running strategies, safety and risk management, and basic rescue skills. Environmental stewardship
and an appreciation for public and private lands are emphasized throughout the course. Half semester course. Two required weekend day trips. Meets General Education Distribution Area V (pre-2025), Health and Wellness; Holistic Wellness Focus Area (2025+).
