Brevard College Recommendations about AI use for Mental Health

At Brevard College we caution the use of AI for mental health concerns. Please, see the statement below from the American Counseling Association. Brevard College aligns its programs and practices with recommendations by the ACA.
 
Alexandria, Va. (January 25, 2024) — Artificial intelligence (AI) shows promise as a valuable support tool for delivery of mental health services, educational guidance and career counseling. But the American Counseling Association (ACA), the leading organization representing counseling professionals, warns that consumers should not use AI as a substitute for a human counselor.

Counseling at Brevard College provides a confidential and safe, emotional and relational space
for you to show up exactly as you are, share your experience, and identify opportunities for
healing, growth, and change in your life. Counseling can help you navigate many things in life
including difficult experiences, mental illnesses like depression and anxiety, relationship
struggles, gender and sexual identity and expression, substance concerns, and life transitions.
Asking for help takes courage and is a sign of strength. We are here to support you.
