A Brief History of The Clarion

The Clarion began publication as a student-produced campus newspaper shortly after Brevard College was established in 1934 by the merger of the older Rutherford and Weaver colleges. The newspaper has been produced continuously, more or less, since its first issue in September 1935. More than 800 of those issues, from 1935 to 2011, have been archived as part of DigitalNC, the North Carolina Digital Heritage Center.
